INTO THE GREY

Quai de Bourbon, Paris 10I’m back in Paris, at last, and into the grey in more ways than one. I forgot a while what it’s like here in winter under a cover of cloud and cold. Everyone is waiting for Spring already but the truth is winter has a long way to go. Getting back to work freelance is a whole other shade of grey in itself, more figuratively speaking as it’s nothing to do with gloom. I prepared myself, but the uncertainty and healthy dose of fear about being the captain of my professional destiny (especially as you know I’ve decided to make a slight change in course) borders on excitement and unease. Out of the office, there’s no waiting for promotions, there’s no 1st and 15th pay days that are inevitable, there’s none of the certainty that with a team  things will keep moving forward and you just have to keep up with your part. There’s just you to make it happen and you’re in constant shades of grey, at the top of the ladder as director and the bottom all at once doing the nitty the gritty to get a project wrapped up, outbound, and invoiced. Some days are down feeling practically unemployed, and others are up feeling like the boss of your own company. This week, I’m up. Tuesday, I’m directing a film (which I’m also producing, styling, and editing) for a new independent women’s fashion label. It’s a small budget (hence my repeats in the credits) and a great challenge that I’m proud to be working on. Everything thing is a step, and later this week is an even bigger one, but my lips have to stay sealed on the details of that one a little longer. Who knows, maybe by then the sun will be shining a little more…

A big thanks to Faye of Farfelue who has been helping me with photos for upcoming projects since getting back,  including these. She’s a talented gal that’s a huge help behind the lens and a new friend I’m loving talking about all things photography and Paris with. Hoping to see more of you on facebook, twitter, and instagram.
